Jacob: 8 Months Old

Unbelievable! My newborn, is no longer a newborn! He is 8 months old today and such a little kid. He is so independent, crawling all over the place, yapping away. He is soooo much better than a dog! (we almost got a dog, but decided on a child instead!) Happy 8 months little guy!

Essex Family Portrait

I had the entire Essex clan over to my studio with 17 people (19 including myself and one "baby" distracter. I don't think I have ever had that many people at my place before! Here is one of my favorites from the session. These are the six siblings minus their two parents, three spouses, and six children.

South Pasadena High 1998 Reunion

I love High School reunions. They start out all civilized as if we have all grown up or something, and then, by the end of the evening it's just like Senior year: screaming, laughing, hollering, party crashers, cursing... just like old times. It was fun to watch the evening unfold as if I were a fly bouncing from conversation to conversation. "So, where do you live? What do you do for a living? Are you married?" The best was when I happened on a group of girls all oogling over their engagement rings only to find out that not one of them was engaged. They had all borrowed rings from fellow classmates to try them on and see how it felt to have a rock on their finger. Good times! Good times!

Daycation: Road Trip to Ventura

Today I took a daycation. A little needed R&R with my two boys, Tim (my husband) and our son, Jake. We took a nice drive on the 126 and joked about moving to the middle of nowhere as we passed gracious rolling hills with rows of crops growing for next season. Once we got to the ocean we decided to drive to C-street beach (California Street) and found that the annual "Aloha" day was happening. We were lucky to find a parking spot and then spent the afternoon strolling along the beach path, looking at vendors, parasailing surfers (apparently all the rage), and hula dancers practicing their moves before going on stage. All in all, a very pleasant day!

Jerry & Donna: Photo Booth by Becca Yee

I love doing these crazy old school black and white photo booths. I set up a backdrop and a strobe, hand the camera over to one of my assistant shooters, and let them rip. I have such a great time looking through all the shots because each of my assistants approach the "booth" in a different and unique way. Becca Yee, who has worked with me for 4 years, got some fun shots as well as some really beautiful portraits. Here are some of my favs... (check back as I add more)
